Meet Rudolf Diesel, office worker, inventor of the diesel engine

Meet Rudolf Diesel, office worker, inventor of the diesel engine – Jakarta: The presence of diesel engines had a big influence in the era of the industrial revolution because they provided more efficient and cheaper power for various industries throughout the world. The diesel engine is closely identified with a person named Rudolf Diesel. Have you ever heard of his name, Medcom

friends ? Come on, get to know Rudolf Diesel , quoted from the Smart Class page : As the name suggests, Rudolf Diesel is the creator of the hot pressure engine known as the diesel engine. He was a German inventor born in Paris, France on March 18 1858. After graduating from the Munich Polytechnic, Rudolf worked as a refrigeration machine technician at the Linde ice making machine company in Paris. In 1890, he moved to Berlin to manage a company engaged in office engineering. Even though he worked in an office, his interest in machine design never disappeared from his memory. Diesel worked on an idea to create an efficient heat engine in his spare time. The design was only realized in 1892 and the patent came out a year later.

Ultimately, Diesel developed the idea of a compression trigger engine in the last decades of the 19th century and received a patent for the device on February 23, 1893. He built a working prototype in early 1897 while working at the MAN factory in Augsburg. In 1872, Rudolf became known and recognized as a reliable mechanical candidate. He finished school at the Gewerbsschule as one of the best graduates, then continued on to the Royal Bavarian Polytechnic in Munich. While studying in Munich, Diesel made many brilliant achievements, including, in 1878, together with his professor, he succeeded in designing a blueprint for a steam engine with the highest efficiency that had ever existed up to that time. He also started writing several papers and published them publicly.

Rudolf Diesel’s brainchild

The Diesel design was very efficient compared to existing engines at the time. Diesel engines do not require external combustion by mixing air and fuel inside the engine. More than that, this machine is equipped with compressing air in the engine cylinder and heating it up to the engine. The air pressure will be in contact with the air that was previously there at the end of the pressure period, this pressure is what heats the engine.

The result is a diesel engine that is smaller and lighter than previous engines commonly used in vehicles and does not use fuel as a combustion source. Diesel wanted to see the design become a reality, a reliable engine. To perfect it, he needed large companies to work together as funders in making the machine.

After getting a business partner, he immediately produced a test engine and a prototype was successfully built in 1893. In the initial tests, the results were dangerous, Diesel was almost killed when one of the engines exploded.

However, the test results prove that the fuel can burn without sparks. He worked deftly to improve the engine model and successfully tested it in 1897.

A year later, Diesel became a very rich man. The machine he created was theoretically 75 percent more efficient while the old machine had an efficiency level of 10 percent compared to a steam engine. Diesel engines are used directly to power cars, trucks and ships.

Apart from that, this machine is also used as a source of electric power, pipelines, plant waterers, mining, factories and oil fields. In fact, to this day diesel engines are still used and have become the basic concept for other inventors.

Until finally, Diesel disappeared from the ship he was traveling on to London on September 29 1913. His body was found on the beach a few days later. The story behind his death remains mysterious to this day. Some believe he committed suicide, while others speculate he was murdered by a coal businessman.
