The Story of the Wooden Massage Tool Maker – A job that he liked and was in line with his knowledge, apparently could not dampen the entrepreneurial spirit of Alex Saefuddin (35). He decided to resign from the company and start a business. Although, at that time, he was confused about what field he wanted to start a business in.
He also diligently visited craft exhibitions. That’s when he saw a small object. It was round and full of protrusions. The object was as big as a palm. In addition, he also saw an object shaped like a ladybug and had six legs. These objects were massage, massage, and reflexology aids. He intended to produce similar objects.
“I thought, this would sell well. While working, I can make tools from iron. This massage tool is made from wood, I definitely can,” he told Kompas.com when met at the Interior and Craft Exhibition, at JCC, Jakarta, Sunday (23/8).
He also produced massage, massage, and reflexology aids with only Rp 1.5 million in capital. He bought used raw materials and tools to reduce production costs. The wood came from used beds. Likewise with the lathe.
“The motor of the lathe is from a sewing machine that I bought in Senen. The wood is indeed teak, but it is used as a bed frame that has been cut into pieces. Actually, there are many materials that are incredibly useful around us. If we buy new materials, we won’t be disappointed ,” said Alex.
According to the man from Surabaya, East Java, his project is currently still in the trial stage. He hopes to be able to make the tool with his own design. A design that is the hallmark of Alex’s production house.
After improving the quality and characteristics, Alex plans to expand into international trade. Alex plans to create a website to market his simple product to the world.
Although it is still a trial project and has only been an entrepreneur for a few months, Alex can already feel the results of his hard work. Alex already has a showroom in CBD Ciledug. The rental fee of Rp 3 million per month is not a problem at all until today.
“Alhamdulillah, once production is complete, we can cover all costs and make a profit,” he said.
When asked whether Alex was afraid of making a loss, especially since he no longer had an income, Alex answered, “The key to entrepreneurship is not to be afraid of making a loss. That’s all. Actually, that fear was not there when starting a business, I was only worried if the market was sluggish. Since July until here, Indonesia’s market share has been falling, the global crisis, whatever… But, never be afraid to try.”
