History of Vape in the World, from 1930 to Marketed in 2003 – Vape , the popular name for electronic cigarettes , is now becoming a trend. Even though it is a trend, there are still pros and cons regarding the effects of using it, whether it is the same as conventional cigarettes or not.
In the United States, it was reported that a young man’s lungs suffered acute damage allegedly due to vaping . What is the story of the beginning of vape, who invented it, until now it is widely used?
Since 1930
Quoted from  Consumer Advocates for Smoke Free Alternative , electronic cigarettes themselves have been around since 1930. Evidence of the existence of e-cigarettes in that year is based on a document containing the e-cigarette patent granted to Joseph Robinson.
However, the cigarettes were never marketed and it is unclear whether they were manufactured.
In the 1960s, Herbert A Gilbert was considered the first creator of a device similar to an electronic cigarette.
Gilbert is said to have received a patent for the electronic cigarette in 1965. However, the cigarette he invented failed to be commercialized. He did not specify what his failure was. However, linking it to companies that may have commercialized it.
The name “vape” was popularized
In the 1979-1980s, one of the computer pioneers, Phil Ray, collaborated with physicist Norman Jacobson to create the first commercial variation of the e-cigarette. They conducted the first formal research to create a nicotine delivery device.
However, inherent errors meant that the tool never became a promising technology. Even though they found a dead end in the process, these two people succeeded in popularizing the word “vape“.
In the 1990s, both tobacco companies and individuals began to look at the electronic cigarette industry.
A US tobacco company released a product similar to modern electronic cigarettes in those years. They then managed to obtain permission from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to bring the electric cigarette to the market in 1998.
However, the FDA rejected it on the grounds that it was considered an unapproved device. In 2003, a pharmacist and smoker named Hon Lik succeeded in making an electronic cigarette and commercializing it.
Hon Lik made the tool because his father died from lung cancer. His father was a heavy smoker. The company where Lik works, Golden Dragon Holdings, developed the device and changed the name to “Ruyan” which means “like a cigarette”.
