Get to know Gilles de Gennes, the inventor of the LCD and the best scientist in France

Get to know Gilles de Gennes, the inventor of the LCD and the best scientist in France – Pierre- Gilles de Gennes was born in Paris, France , on October 24, 1932. He completed his studies at the Ecole Normale Superieure School, an elite school in France.

His career began as an expert on magnetism and neutron scattering.

Then, he switched to the supraconductor field before finally focusing on liquid crystals and discovering Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) technology.

Launching SitubondoNetwork.com from the book Figures Behind Important Inventions, LCD is an abbreviation for Liquid Crystal Display.

Currently, LCD technology has been widely used in various fields, such as electronics, televisions, calculators and computer displays.

LCD dominates the display type on desktop and notebook computers because it has low power consumption, thin form factor, produces little heat, and high resolution.

On a color LCD screen, there are many points of light or pixels consisting of one liquid crystal as a point of light.

Although they are called points of light, these liquid crystals do not emit light themselves.

The light source in an LCD device is a white fluorescent lamp located at the back of the liquid crystal arrangement.

The number of light points reaching tens of thousands or even millions forms an image on the screen.

The polarization of the magnetic field produced by an electric current passing through a liquid crystal will change its poles, so that only some colors can pass through while other colors will be filtered out.
