History of Blender, Born in 1922 and Perfected by a Musician – The buzzing sound of a blender in the month of Ramadan, used to make a variety of refreshing fruit juices.
All of us fruit juice fans have Stephen Poplawski , Osius, and Fred Waring to thank .
A blender is an electronic device in the form of a glass or plastic container equipped with a small knife inside.
This knife functions for cutting, stirring, grinding, and also smoothing food ingredients. It can be fruit, vegetables and spices.
When the blender is connected to an electric current and the button is turned on, the motor at the bottom of the knife will move the knife at low, medium and maximum speed.
Even though it can be used to puree various kinds of food ingredients, blenders are more often used to process juices or smoothies, which are fresh drinks made from fruit, vegetables and fresh milk.
Invention of the blender and first patent
Reporting from theinventors page , Blender was born in 1922 through the hands of Stephen Poplawski, an American-Polish man, owner of the Stevens Electric Company in Racine, Wisconsin.
One day Poplawski wanted to mix and make a soda fountain drink, a drink that was similar to a milk shake.
But apparently, Poplawski didn’t have the tools to mix and shake all the ingredients.
Then with an idea in his head, he took a jar-like container which he then connected to a simple motorbike engine. In the container, he put a small knife that could spin when the motor was turned on.
The experiment was successful. It turns out that this simple machine can be used to cut and soften fruit and vegetables with quite satisfactory results.
Thanks to this discovery, Poplawski received a patent right in 1932.
Perfected by Osius
Fred Osius, who perfected Poplawski’s simple blender. The blender with blades that are difficult to remove to clean has been modified in such a way. Exactly in 1933, Osius received a patent for his invention.
However, due to financial problems in perfecting his findings, Osius finally collaborated with Fred Waring.
Fred Waring himself is an architectural engineering student from Penn State University, who has always been interested in the world of technology.
Apart from working in the world of technology, Fred Waring is also a musician who is a member of the Banjo Orchestra.
In this business collaboration, apart from being a capital supplier, Fred Waring also acted as a marketer who had a bold idea, marketing blenders to the wider community.
However, unfortunately, six months after the collaboration was established, the blender made by Osius is still considered far from perfect, hampered by technical problems that have never been resolved.
Popularized by musicians
Fred Waring also dumped Osius and designed his own modified blender. In 1937, Fred Waring released a new blender called the Miracle Mixer.
Then, in 1938, Fred changed the name of his product to Waring Blendor or Waring Blender , a name adapted to the name of his company, Waring Corporation.
Not waiting long, Fred Waring immediately spread his wings. As a first step, he offered his blender products to companies whose daily activities involve processing food, such as restaurants and hotels.
Waring Blendor immediately topped the popularity charts. There was even a time when these blenders dominated hospitals, used to mix food and drinks to support special diet programs.
In historical records, Dr Jonas Salk is also said to have used Waring Blendor in his research to develop a polio vaccine.
Since then, from year to year, blenders have experienced various developments. Various giant technology companies are competing to produce blenders with various modifications, the results of which we can enjoy right now.
