History of Alarm Clocks, from Natural Alarms to the Invention of Mechanical Clocks – Before there were gadgets equipped with clock and alarm setting technology, people relied on the accuracy of waking up for sahur and waking up in the morning with the help of an alarm clock .
Alarm clocks are usually small in size. Because they are designed as table clocks, they can be placed next to the bed to be effective in waking up the owner of the clock.
The clock setting is usually located on the back of the watch. It is a dial to adjust the hour hand and also the minute hand.
The alarm clock is an invention that makes human life easier. Long before the alarm clock was invented, around 1600, humans woke up in the morning relying on their body’s natural rhythm.
Or rely on the rhythm of nature that is around it. Such as the crowing of roosters, the singing of birds, the mooing of cows demanding breakfast, and other natural sounds.
As reported by Livescience , in the years 1600-1700, there was a profession whose job was to go from house to house to wake up sleepers who often woke up late.
They would knock on the window very hard. If that didn’t work, they would throw nuts or seeds at the sleeper’s face through the window.
The discovery of an ancient alarm clock
When talking about the history of alarm clocks, we cannot leave out the glory days of Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt, where humans at that time had learned to mark time with sundials and obelisk monuments.
From the discovery of the ancient clock, time-keeping technology has developed over time.
Reporting from  Insider , the oldest alarm clock itself was found in Germany since the 15th century. However, it was still a large iron clock attached to the wall equipped with a bronze bell.
In the book Early  English Clock  written by the Antique Collector Club, it is mentioned that there was an invention in 1620 in the form of a lantern clock which also had a special alarm setting.
Then in 1690, a timepiece equipped with an alarm setting was also recorded, created by Joseph Knibb.
Patented inventions
Unfortunately, these primitive clock discoveries seem to have been forgotten by history. In official records, the discovery of the alarm clock was only detected in 1787.
In that year it was said that Levi Hutchins from New Hampshire was the first to make an alarm clock.
Hutchins’ clock is 73 cm tall and 36 cm wide. This cabinet clock is only set to sound at 4 am. That is the time when factory workers at that time had to walk to work.
In 1876, Seth E. Thomas of Connecticut created the first mechanical alarm clock. On October 24, 1876, Thomas received patent number 183,725 for his invention of an alarm clock that could be set to sound at a desired time.
The manufacture of small alarm clocks like Thomas’s actually began in the early 1870s. But only Thomas patented his invention.
In 1931, Westclox introduced its newest slot gacor product, the Chime Alarm, which is famous for its tagline, ” First he whispers, then he shouts .”
Since 1931, alarm clocks have continued to develop. From large to small and can be placed on a table, from those that are only equipped with loud bells to those equipped with human voice recordings and songs.
